BPR
BPR was established in 1975 as a single cooperative bank. Similar organisations were started in subsequent years before an umbrella organisation was founded in 1986 called Union des Banques Populaires du Rwanda. It became a commercial bank in 2008 but the former cooperatives retain a majority of the shares. The Dutch multinational banking group Rabobank is also a significant shareholder. It has 191 branches and 1,600 staff. It offers banking services to individual clients and businesses and it has 1.3 million customers. The range of products that are available includes current accounts, term deposits, and savings accounts. Specialist rural banking services are also available.
